These Are a Few of My Favorite Things...Mexican Style

  • My #1 all-time favorite Mexican food item is....*dun dun dun dun*...a super burrito from my favorite taco truck. Contrary to popular gringo beliefs around here, it is in fact a taco TRUCK and not a taco wagon. I don't care if you can drive it or not. It is definitely not a wagon. Now that that's settled, the gorgeous, most amazing article of food I have ever tasted...

"Are you hungry?" "Yeah..." "Super burrito?" "YEAH!"

Alright...so maybe I go there too often when all the employees know what I order...and my car...but heck with it, I'm Mexican, I have my needs.
  • Some may call this next point a stereotype, but I don't! One observation I have made over my time spent with my Mexican family and in line at the taco truck or Chipotle, is that most Mexicans pay for everything...and I mean EVERYTHING...with $20 bills. Next time you have a Mexican in front of you buying something, pay attention to what they're paying with. For example, I was at the grocery store just a few days ago on Thanksgiving to buy some Rainbow Sherbet ice cream and some Club soda with my dad. He insisted on paying even though the total only came out to $3 and some change. What did he use to pay? A $20 bill! I was so surprised that I even made a comment about it. "Why break a $20 bill for $3?!" Haha I don't think he responded. Case in point, Mexicans like to pay with 20's. I think it has to do with how they get paid. You'll also see them ask to break $100 and $50 bills a lot more than anyone else.

  • Since I'm hungry, I'm once again brought back to the topic of food. Alphabet soup. Sounds American doesn't it? Well, maybe it is, but I'm not sure. All I know is that this stuff is from Mexico...well...San Jose I guess haha. Apparently there's a lot more to making it than the simple "boil the water" directions on the back of the bag. My dad made some of this the last time I saw him, so it's still fresh in my mind. :) 1 bag of the letters/alphabet, LOTS of onions, 1/2 can of tomato sauce, and quite a bit of chicken broth. He suggested toasting the letters in a pan until they're pretty dark, then blend together the chicken broth, tomato sauce, and onions before adding them to the letters in the pan. Bring it to a boil and keep the temperature up relatively high until the letters get really big and absorb all the sauce. Keep adding the chicken broth.

"So how long do you leave it on for?" "Eh, Idk." "You don't know?" "Uh...no."

  • Last, but not least, my favorite Mexican movie. This one isn't really that hard considering that I have only seen only a handful of "Mexican" film other than those awful Spanish soap operas that my evil babysitters always used to have on... Anyway, coming in at number one is Stand and Deliver. It's about math, yeah, but beyond that, it's a funny movie. It's funnier if you speak Spanish though.

"Hey Kimo! You proud of me? I'm the first dude here!...What's calculus (cal-coo-lus)?"
"On the first day of Christmas, a cholo came to me"

Phew, that was a long post! Too much tea for me :P

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things...British Style

  • In my opinion, the best stress reliever is tea. Now, I'm not talking about any tea...this is high quality, caffeinated black British tea! I am definitely addicted and hardly drink any coffee as a result. I honestly need to attend TAA (Tea Addict's Annonymous) ASAP. Here is my drug:
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
  • As a lover of tea and Mini Coopers, this mug is my favorite everyday British item that accompanies my Typhoo tea every morning:

"MINI. DARE TO BE DIFFERENT."

  • What do I need to go along with this mug? A Mini Cooper of course! THIS will be my ride some day:

"You may say I'm a dreamer...but I'm not the only one!"

  • Why is a Mexican blonde so into British stuff you ask? Because I'm a smidgen British of course! ;)
